The Best Way To Cope With Anxiety Attacks?

Tonight was the first time I had relived an anxiety attack since about 2 years ago. And when it hit me ..it hit me like a train. All of the sudden all the fears just shut me down and I found myself in the ER. Has anyone ever felt like no matter how deep of a breath they took it wasnt enough? I was wondering what is the best way YOU have found to cope with this illness.. that is so powerful.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks in advance,
Penny

hi i suffer from anxiety as well. i don’t know the best way to get rid of them but i have a strategy i use that helps me to feel in control. it’s really simple. It’s just about being in the moment instead of freaking out about what is going to happen. all you do is look around wherever you are and say to yourself or out loud 5 things you can see, then 5 things you hear and 5 things you feel – in the physical sense, not the emotional – so it might be the sun on your back the coolness of the wind etc. then you do it again only you say 4 things you can see, hear and feel then 3, 2 and 1 or as many times as you need to until you can bring yourself back into the present moment. It’s a recognised technique used by counsellors and while it doesn’t get rid of the anxiety thoughts it helps to bring you back to the moment and remind you that you are actually safe. hope that helps

I feel like that every time I step outside my door, especially if I’m alone. Currently I’m looking into therapy, seeing a psychiatrist and getting medication so I can cope with GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder). I suggest you do the same, considering my GAD isn’t so incredibly advanced that I like vomit and pass out when I’m nervous, but if you don’t treat it, it can escalate to that or impair you from living your everyday life. Good Luck :) .
