Jo, I suggest you see a doctor.
I can relate to how your son feels. I had anxiety attacks too. I was thinking too much. For me, that was when I had to speak in public. Or when there would be more than a few people around me in the same room. It was something that started when I was a teenager and that lasted over years and subsequently affected my career until not so long ago.
At some point, I was prescribed medicine but I wanted to avoid that because of the side effects. That’s when I discovered a program that literally pulled me out of that “hole”. It is a 100% natural method. It is at: http://www.stop-your-anxiety-now.com
The KEY is that your son should no longer fear the thought of anxiety. He has to get out of that loop.
Not only did that technique cure me – you can become your true self again – but I was also extremely surprised to even discover newly built self-confidence.
There is always a solution!
All the best

OH yes, sleeplessness is HUGE in panic disorders and anxiety.
I have the exact same thing as he does, its extremely crippling. I’m begging you to get him a pill called “gaba” from your local health store. Its over the counter, and it has helped me and probably saved my life.
Also, make sure he weens himself off of any caffeine if he does have any. No aspartame or trans fats in his diets, they cause the brain to release the chemical that brings forward panic attacks.
For on-the-go situations, tetris has surprisingly helped me too. Its a great distraction. If he has a cell phone, make sure he has it on there.

I too suffered with debilitating anxiety attacks for years. But I am here to tell you, people really can recover.
There is a phenomenal book called Hope and Help for Your Nerves by Dr. Claire Weekes. She has helped millions around the world to reclaim their lives and overcome severe anxiety disorders. Get this book. It is only a few dollars.
This book played a key role in helping me to kick these anxiety attacks out the door. Because of the restoration of my health, I created a website to share the incredible natural health resources that have allowed me to regain the quality of my life http://www.healthbanquet.com/anxiety-hop… and be anxiety attack free with no medication.
There might be some resources there to help you on this get well journey.
I also had the extreme anxiety where it felt like a freight train was rolling through my body at night, in addition to the other scary symptoms. Sleeping was not much of an option. I now sleep like a baby!
Let me say, I did work with many doctors who ran just about every diagnostic test to make sure it was anxiety I was contending with.
Blessings to your son,
Vital Force

Well, its kinda hard to really say what would help him. One thing I would look into is seeing if he can get any insurance so he can see a doctor to help him. If he’s not working or anything, there might be some state funded programs that will at least help him get medical coverage.
If thats not an option, or doesn’t work, he could always try something over the counter. Some herbal supplements like valerian, kava kava, and chamomile work as anxiolytics and could help. Some people swear by them. I’ve never actually taken them or known anyone who has, so I can’t really speak from experience, but it might be worth looking into.

I have panic attacks or at least i used to but nothing like what you are describing. I would defiantly suggest that he go to the doctor. This sounds really scary. Maybe there is a free clinic close. Are you sure he is not on any drugs? There is valerian root which is over the counter which helps to ease anxiety..it is what valium is made from. It does not have very many side effects but it will make him sleepy. I would try that in the mean time. If it is anxiety attacks that he is having he needs to deal with what ever problems are causing them..relationships, roomates, job, family etc. It won’t improve until he makes changes it our bodies defense mechanism for stress overload. I would defiantly see a doctor because I am not too sure this is just anxiety. Google it online for further ideas.

Ive had these same symptoms for a number of months. I started to develop seizures. Now, I am dealing with extreme confusion that seems to be growing worse everyday. ive tried to get help and so far, for me, nothing has worked. as far as handling them without meds?? the one and only thing i have been trying to teach myself to do is clear my mind and relax. and i dont drink caffeine.

he can go to therapy. It worked for me. They will teach you to reconize when the anxiety starts, and how to stop it. But you are talking about going for a long time to get to that point.

Yes, insomnia, depression and anxiety go together.

try reiki… that might help. its very calming. also too much sugar/soda could contribute. have his allergies checked as diet is hugely important.
