How Do You Stop Anxiety And Panic Attacks Without Medication?

First off, consider medication. Unless you have specific reasons for not wanting medication, it can be very helpful in reducing anxiety/panic attacks. Much anxiety is caused by a lack of sufficient “happy” brain chemicals, and medication is effective at raising those chemicals and making you feel more normal. I use Xanax and can testify to its effectiveness.
That said, anxiety and panic attacks can be helped by other means. Other people have suggested meditation, which is helpful. Also try getting a book on relaxation techniques, and try “The Anxiety Cure” by Archibald Hart.
The thing about anxiety is that it is irrational, and you need to be able to understand what it is that is making you uncomfortable. The above two books can help you identify the source of your anxiety, which will make it easier to treat.

Ive suffered anxiety/panic disorder for 6 yrs I finally admitted it to myself a year and a half ago. I had an attack while driving, nothing triggered it, it just happened. I had my little girl w/me. That was when I decided to take control over my anxiety, instead of letting it control me! I would strongly advise seeing a councelor; as one can be very beneficial to helping you sort out how to deal with the attacks. Don’t wait until you put someone’s life in danger before you seek help!

I have had Anxiety and panic attacks since i was very small. Im 26 yrs old now and meditation does help but if u dont know what ur doing that could cause more harm then good. My advise to u is go to a quite room. Or if u are in ur car or outside… it dont matter close ur eyes and sit very still, take ur right hand and wrap it around ur left wristso that u are feeling ur pulse with ur 2 fingers. Focas on ur pluse and the way that ur heart is beating and sit there blocking all the things around u for about 5 mins… u can do it for a little as 2 mins tho if ur in public… in a way is a lite prayer… after u have done that dont open ur eyes just yet think of slowing down ur heart rate… u will be able to slow it down enough to be able to breath easier and relax alot and be okay. Good Luck I know it very hard to have that happen to u.

First of all, cut down on caffeine and sugar. I find that most of my panic attacks occur with 24 hours or so of drinking anything with caffeine. Secondly, work on changing the “tape” that keeps repeating in your head. I used to always tell myself, “I can’t do this, I can’t do this, I’ll look like a fool!” and things like that. Since then, I’ve made up mantras that are almost rhythmic and I repeat them to myself over and over when I’m in a stressful situation. I say, “I CAN do this, I CAN do this, I will be okay, My feelings WILL NOT control me!” And then I work on controlling my breathing. I know it sounds really stupid at first. I know I thought it did, but it really has helped me. I still get panic attacks, but they are less severe and less frequent. Unfortunately this is not a quick fix, but the trick is to just keep repeating these mantras over and over again even though you may not believe what you’re saying. Eventually it will be second nature. I know that this is hard, but you can do it! Good luck to you!

Eat less sugar. Studies have proven that a lot of sugar in your diet can cause panic attacks.
