Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this herb called “St John’s Wort” – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
If you’re unable to take St John’s Wort, you can substitute it with Siberian Ginseng or Licorice Herb.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that “learned behavior” in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

I’ve been on Prozac twice and I swear it saved myself.
The first time was when it first came out. I don’t remember what year it was though. I was young and had some awful depression. I was on it for over a year or so.
I was put back on it again about 7yrs ago. I had horrible depression after my 3rd child was born. It really helped a lot and I needed to be on it. I again was on it for over a year or so. I then went off it under doctor’s care.
I’m sure I’m better now even though I still have panic attacks and stuff but I’m able to get through most on my own.
For me personally and my panic issues I feel that a lot of the work is not only done with meds, but inside as well. A lot of panic has to do with your thinking and inner fears. So you need to make sure you work with that too and just take the meds.
I still have a lot of issues with fear and panic & I really don’t think people with these problems are ever fuly healed. It is like someone with a drug problem or something. It is easy to fall back into that pattern of worry and fear.
Hopefully the Prozac will help you like it has many others, but most of all talk to a therapist as much as you can to learn how to work through the anxiety when it happens and also help you find the triggers. ; )

Prozac will definitely alleviate the attacks. However, it’s not really a longterm solution. Don’t get me wrong, i’m not against medication. Infact I’m all for it if it helps you.
However, it’s important that you learn natural ways to deal with your anxiety and panic or else you’ll become completely dependent on the medication. Chemical dependancies on anything are never a permanent fix.
Check out this article and learn how you can naturally prevent the panic attacks but changing your mindset from the inside out. I think you’ll find it very helpful:http://www.stop-anxiety-panic-attack.com…

I took Prozac for those things and it worked really well for quite a while and then stopped. anti-depressants work so different for each person. I’ve taken them for many many years, and have had to switch at times, Prozac made me lose weight and I think it does for most people, which I loved, but I know it doesn’t for everyone. Good luck, keep trying until you find the right one !!

Prozac just made me more angry and depressed. Sleepy at first. But medications work differently on different people. That is why diagnosing mental issues and medicating them are so difficult for Drs. they never know what might help. Prozac is usually the first thing they try. If it works for you then right on! Just make sure you are honest with your Dr. if it doesn’t work. It should take about 4 weeks before you see a difference.

I think this is an excellent document about antidepressants where you can get lots of answers from psychiatrists, psychologists and other professionals. Also, you are going to find out lots of information about side effects that you may not have heard about from your doctor.

Yes it did. I have been taking it for years for OCD and it helps me lead a normal life. The urges are still there but I can control them.
