Does Anyone Have Panic Attacks About Death?

Every so often, it’s as if my brain realises that death is a very realistic thing that might come sooner rather than later…which ultimately ends in me having a very short but scary panic attack? does anyone else have them?

Panic disorder is characterized by unexpected and repeated episodes of intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms that may include chest pain, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, or abdominal distress. These sensations often mimic symptoms of a heart attack or other life-threatening medical conditions. Panic disorder is treatable through ongoing interventions provided by a child’s medical practitioners, therapists, school staff, and family. These treatments include psychological interventions (counseling), biological interventions (medicines), and accommodations at home and school that reduce sources of stress for the child. Panic disorder is caused by the recurrence of attacks that subsequently creates an ongoing fear of having another attack. The ongoing fear then leads to extreme avoidance behavior of people, places and situations in order to prevent having another attack.

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.
Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There’s this strange herb called “St John’s Wort” – it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John’s Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.
The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced… you have that “learned behavior” in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior – Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction… There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to….

Yeah sometimes I do when I am lying in bed at night I will be thinking **** one day I am actually going to be gone forever, its so scary I cant breathe so I end up getting out of bed to turn the light on and calm myself down its a harsh reality but you have to think about the present which is so so important :)
Its hard to imagine your own death because of course you think to yourself why should I die? like it isnt real to me or something but it is and I guess I cant run away from it but hey im 21 I have sooo much living to do yet!
But yeah I think people would be inhumane not to be worried about death so many people try to deny it or dont talk about it but I guess in time people do accept it, I dont think I ever will but then again thats not for me to decide right?

Why be scared of death? There’s one thing that is going to happen to us all in this life and that is we are going to die sooner or later. Maybe try meditating as a way of chilling out and calming down.
Tbh, I think that what awaits us on the other side is a far more peaceful time than being on this earth. I am not encouraging anyone to take their lives btw just that death does not scare me.
I spent a lot of time with my father as he was dying and towards the end he really seemed to find peace and solace in what was to come. i often wonder if he had had a glimpse of the other side and he most certainly saw a brilliant white light. The room he was in was pitch black (his sight had gone witn cancer) yet he kept telling me to stop shining the strong torch in his eyes. When I said no torch he described a pillar of strong white light and asked where else it could have come from if not a torch! He still had all his faculties and was not on any medication at this time.
Please don’t be scared of dying though, just enjoy your time on this earth with your loved ones. Take care :~)

yes i used to get them, not about dying as such but about dying and leaving my disabled children and that resulted in a near panic attack. If it is so bad for you, there is some medication your GP can give you that will make you more relaxed so you will be able to think calmly and rationally about what happens to us all sooner or later. This has gone far enough for you and it is now time to get help from your doctor. If something is interfering with your every day life then enough is enough.
Panic attacks CAN be helped you have no need to suffer like that.

No. Every one of us is going to die (including you) no matter what, so what is worrying about it going to do for you? Why don’t you focus instead on what you are going to make of yourself and your life with the time you are given on this earth? Maybe you are here to help someone else or make a difference in their lives. You never know…!

Fear of dying is a very common symptom of panic attacks. As much as people tell you not to be afraid of dying, until you actually learn to cope and eliminate that fear, the panic attacks will keep coming.
Hope this site helps you.

I used to but I read a really good book about what happens after we die & I am no longer scared but rather looking forwards to it. It is the most wonderful place we go to…please feel free to email if you’d like the name of the book.

I have had a phobia about death and dying since I was a teenager. Now and then it rears its ugly head and I have an anxiety disorder so if I let myself dwell on this thought I will make myself really ill and I will go into panic mode.

I worry more about losing my mum than me dying – i know its going to happen one day. We just have to accept that death is the only certainty in life.
