Anyone Know An Over The Counter Treatment For Stress Induced Cystitis In Cats?
We are minding a cat long term, we have had him 6mths now. Our own cat beats up on him. He regularly gets stress induced cystitis and we have to visit the vet. He usually gets an antinflammatory injection and this fixes him but burns the $$. Can anyone recommend something that I can get over the counter, either to relieve his stress or the cystitis? Both cats are desexed males 3 years old (ours) and 4 years old.

You can get glucosamine supplements (Cosequin is a brand for pets) to ease the inflammation, and you could try a pheromone for the stress and fighting. Feliway makes a spray or plug-in air freshener-type diffuser for pheromones. For some cats this has a calming effect and can help with anxiety, fighting, and inappropriate elimination. The Cosequin capsules are flavored, and can be opened and sprinkled on his food. If he’s still stressed, cats can take certain antidepressants, ask the vet if that would benefit him.
